City models

Bid-rent theory

Land is more expensive in the Central Business District and progressively decreases as you go further.

Burgess Central Zone Model

A North American city model which says that a city grows/develops outward in rings/circles from the CBD.
CBD, factory, lower class, middle class, upper class

Hoyt Sector Model

A North American city model which says that a city grows/develops in wedges around the CBD. Upper class remains far from factory while lower class remains close.

Multiple Nuclei Model

A North American city model which says that a city grows/develops around multiple nodes/nuclei. The CBD is NOT the central feature.

Galactic City Model

A North American city model which says that a city grows/develops out with the CBD no longer the central feature. Edge cities remove focus from the CBD.

Latin American City Model

A Latin American city model which says a city grows/develops with the market and CBD are next to each other. Upper class is closest which lower class lives further from the CBD.

African City Model

An African city model which says a city grows/develops with several CBD. Upper class is closest to the CBD’s while lower class is further.

Southeast City Model

A Southeastern city model which says a city grows/develops with a port at the center. High class is close to the part and low class is far, with a market garden on the outermost part of the city.

Gentrification

The renewal or regeneration of an area to improve it.

Displacement

The forces movement of people from their homes as a result of something.
Ex: eviction, rising costs, loss of job opportunity or industry.
