Broadly refers to the protection of an individual, organization, network, etc. from threats

Privacy

A right of individuals to seclude themselves from others and manager their own information (info that pertains to them)

What was Bartnicki v. Vopper?

Court case where it was determined media outlets cannot be held liable for publishing info. that another party illegally obtained, even if the outlet knows how it was obtained.

Voluntary Consent

One of the most important exceptions to the right to privacy - The individual that private information is pertained to can surrender that privacy. It can be necessary or unnecessary to do so, depending on the service.

Personally Identifiable Information (PII)

Info. that can be used to identify an individual (ex. SSN, Address, Physical ID)

Direct Identifier

Info. that can
