Plants can make organic nutrients from inorganic substances. They use carbon dioxide, water and mineral ions, which they take in from the air and soil. The process by which plants create carbohydrates from raw materials using light is known as photosynthesis.
Word equation for photosynthesis.
carbon dioxide + water react to form glucose + oxygen in the presence of sunlight and chlorophyll.
What is a chlorophyll?
