Urinary Elimination
The process of expelling urine from the urinary bladder, also known as voiding or micturition.
Micturition
The act of urination or voiding, involving the coordinated function of the central nervous system (CNS) and urinary system.
Detrusor Muscle
The smooth muscle of the bladder wall responsible for bladder contraction during urination.
Urinary Retention
A condition where the bladder does not completely empty during urination, leading to the accumulation of urine.
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
An infection that can occur in any part of the urinary system, commonly characterized by symptoms such as urgency, frequency, and burning during urination.
Urinary Incontinence
The involuntary loss of urine, which can be caused by various factors, including stress, urge, overflow, or functional issues.
Nephrostomy
A surgical procedure that involves placing a tube to drain urine directly from the kidney when the ureter is obstructed.
Ureterostomy
A surgical procedure that creates an opening for urine to exit the body, usually after the bladder has been removed or is nonfunctional.
Continent Urinary Reservoir
A surgically created pouch that holds urine and can be drained by the patient using a catheter.
Bladder Irrigation
A process in which a solution is introduced into the bladder through a catheter to clean or medicate the bladder and urinary tract.
