Renewable energy sources :
Renewable energy sources are clean, natural power from resources that never run out or can be replenished.
Non-renewable energy sources :
Non-renewable energy sources come from resources that take millions of years to form and can’t be replaced once they’re used up
What are some examples of renewable energy sources :
Solar Energy, Wind Energy, Hydropower, Geothermal Energy, Biomass Energy
what are some examples of non renewable energy sources :
Fossil fuels, Nuclear Energy
Solar Energy :
Solar energy comes from the sun. We use solar panels to capture sunlight & turn it into electricity
Wind Energy :
Wind energy comes from the wind. Wind turbines ( windmills ) spin when the wind blows, generating energy
Hydropower :
Hydropower comes from moving water, like rivers & waterfalls. Dams can capture the energy from flowing water to produce electricity
Geothermal Energy :
Geothermal energy comes from heat inside the earth. We can use this heat to generate electricity or to heat buildings
Biomass Energy :
Biomass energy comes plants and animals. ( ex : wood, crops and animals waste can be used to produce energy )
Fossil Fuels
Fossil fuels include coal ,oil and natural gas. They come from the remains of ancient plants and animals buried underground for millions of years.
Nuclear Energy :
Nuclear energy comes from splitting atoms. ( tiny particles that make up everything.) The most common material use is uranium, which is mined from the Earth.
What is the difference between renewable & non renewable energy sources?
Renewable energy is sustainable & won’t ever run out + cleaner for the environment
Non renewable energy can run out and often causes pollution when used
What is the impact of non renewable energy on the environment?
Non renewable energy sources have significant impacts on the environment. Main effects :
burning, fossil, fuels releases large amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. These gasses trap heat leading to global warming and climate change the results in more extreme weather, events, rising sea levels, and changes in the ecosystem.
