Entailments or “follows logically”
Aks: if above statements are TRUE, what is the next choice that must also be TRUE
Ways to Predict (if possible) Look for relationships:
If X connects to Y and Y connects to Z, then X connects to Z
Ways to Predict (if possible) Symbolization any conditional statements
Are there conditional statements that act as rules and should be symbolized
Ways to Predict (if possible) Note Language
Note strong and weak language. If entire passage has consistently strong or weak langauge, it’s onlikely that opposite language would follow the passage
If can’t predict, try the truth test
Test each choice by asking yourself if that statement has to be true, based on the facts in the passage. You could also eliminate choices by asking whether the statement could acceptably be false. Be careful to not use this Truth Test on strongly supported questions!
If can’t predict, dont use own imagination
Resist the urge to “fill in the blanks yourself”, which usually entails adding assumptions to try to make a choice true.
If can’t predict, Read with precision
“Most” is not the same thing as “some”; “at least two” is not the same thing as “at most two”; “X can be dangerous” is not the same thing as “X shouldn’t be done.”
Tip
Don’t compare choice to each other, but compare choices to the passage
