Radiologist
A physician who specialize in the use of X-rays and radiation to diagnose and treat disease.
Radiologic technologist
A person who takes X-rays to assist the physician in the diagnosis of injuries and disease.
Contrast medium
A substance, such as barium, given orally or intravenously to make the structure under X-ray scrutiny more distinct as X-ray do not penetrate this.
Intravenous pyelography
A scrutiny of the urinary tract using a contrast medium. Used to check kidney stone.
Angiography
An X-ray examination of blood vessels using a contrast medium introduced into a catheter that is inserted into a blood vessel.
Myelography
The study of the spinal canal using a contrast material
Fluoroscopy
A type of X-ray in which imaging examinations produce dynamic images on a florescent screen usually done in GI tract.
Anatomic position
A position in which a person stands erect, facing forward, feet pointed forward and slightly apart, and arms at the sides with palms of the hands facing forward.

Proximal
Closer to the origin of the body part or the point of attachment of a limb to the body trunk
Distal
farther from the origin of a body part or the point of attachment of a limb to the body trunk
midsagittal plane
the sagittal plane that divides the body into equal left and right halves
frontal (coronal) plane
vertical plane dividing the body or structure into anterior and posterior portions
Horizontal (Transverse) Plane
Any plane dividing the body into superior and inferior portions.
mammogram
radiographic image of the breast
Computerized tomography(CT)
An imaging machine that uses radiation to take horizontal/transverse images of the body.
patient transport system
Part of the equipment used for a CT scan that moved the patient through a gantry.
Gantry
Enclosure where pictures are takin in a thin beam of X-rays that rotates in a continuous 360 degree motion around the patient, during CT scan
data acquisition system
A machine that calculates how the X-rays have affected the body part during a CT scan
Operators console
The control panel used by the technician to perform various functions during the CT scan.
Reformation
The process by which a technologist can instruct the computer to reexamine stacked horizontal/transverse images in the fontal/coronal, midsagittal, medial or oblique planes during a CT scan.
Reconstruct
The process by which the computer looks at any one of the scanned tissues in greater details.
magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
A machine that uses a powerful magnetic field and radio frequency energy to produce images based on the hydrogen content in the body,
MRI gantry
The enclosure that holds a large magnet, a radio frequency transceiver, gradient coils, transfer electronic equipment, and a device that helps move the patient into and a device that helps move the patient into and out of the machine.
Ultrasound
A noninvasive test directing sound waves through tissue or organs to visualize internal structures.
