Intramuscular epinephrine administration
some areas allow IM injection using a 1:1,000 concentration (1 mg/mL) vial with a needle and syringe.
Typical adult IM dose
0.3 mg injected into the mid-anterolateral thigh.
Pediatric IM dose
weight-based, commonly 0.15 mg using EpiPen Jr, with a maximum single dose of 0.3 mg.
Dosing for patients <33 pounds
calculated individually at 0.01 mg/kg IM in the thigh.
IM injection concentration requirement
must use 1 mg/mL; other concentrations are not used for IM injections in anaphylaxis.
