Bourgeoisie
The socio-economic class between the peasants and the owners of land or business, who accumulated, directed and controlled capital in medieval France.
Petite bourgeoisie
A social class made up of craftsmen, small tradesmen, shopkeepers, and small farm owners who have experienced a brief rise in social mobility for one or two generations.
Middle bourgeoisie
A social class with solid incomes, belonging to a family that has been bourgeois for three or more generations, often having family members with similar backgrounds or aristocratic connections.
Grande bourgeoisie
A social class made up of families who have been bourgeois for at least four or five generations, often marrying into the aristocracy and having a historical and cultural heritage.
Haute bourgeoisie
A social rank within the bourgeoisie that can only be acquired over time, consisting of bourgeois families that have existed since the French Revolution, possessing rich cultural and historical heritages.
