Electron transport chain
This passes electrons through a series of carries that ultimately reduce molecular oxygen to water, pump protons across the inner mitochondrial membrane, and build a gradient
Complex I
This receives NADH and oxidises it to NAD+ and releases two electrons to the UQ, pumps four protons per oxidation
Complex II
This receives FADH2 carries and oxidises it to FAD and releases two electrons to the UQ, sharing the SDH reaction with the CAC
Complex III
This receives electrons from UQ mobile carriers, releasing one electron at a time to cyt. C, pumps four protons per carrier
Complex IV
This receives one electron at a time from the cytochrome C, and reduces oxygen to water, pumping two protons per carrier received and two water molecules per two carriers
Ubiquinone
This is a mobile carrier within the electron transport chain, moves between complexes I, II, and III
Cytochrome C
This is a mobile carrier within the electron transport chain, moves between complexes III and IV
