Funeral Home Objectives
1. Meet death-related needs of those grieving families that select the funeral to serve them.
2. Ensure that funerals generate enough money to meet the expenses, make capital improvements, and generate a reasonable return on investment (ROI) profit.
Functions of Management
Planning, organization, directing (actuating), and evaluating or controlling
Planning
Envision the end result at the start of the process. A successful manager must develop the ability to think through every project and task and then develop a thorough, complete plan to carry the project to completion.
Goals
Broad statements about what the organization wants to achieve. Usually stated without reference to time period.
Objectives
Specific statements of ends, the achievement of which are contemplated within a specific time period. Accomplished by specific date and are stated in specific date and time framework.
Organization
Work that needs to be completed should be divided into manageable units. Specific people or groups of people should be given the responsibility for each unit.
Directing (Actuating)
Manager must manage people. Must have the ability to deal with people and their problems. Charged with getting members to perform in ways that will achieve the company’s objectives. A good manager can inspire employees do their problems. Accomplished by removing organizational obstacles hindering employees, establishing an enjoyable work environment, and obtaining sufficient resources.
Evaluation and Adaption
Managers must hold themselves accountable for results, adapt to changing circumstances, and continually improve processes.
Leadership Qualities
Attributes like trustworthiness, vision, adaptability, and effective communication are crucial for success.
