cutaneous membrane
only dry membrane and found externally, like the skin
mucous membrane
also known as mucousae, it lines body cavities with openings. like the moon cavities and the anal cavity.
serous membrane
also known as serosa, it lines body cavities w/o openings. like the abdominalpelvic cavity, thoracic cavity.
what makes the serous membrane?
the bi layered parietal and visceral membranes
parietal membrane
the outer layer of a serous membrane that lines the walls of a body cavity.
visceral membrane
directly wraps around the organ; the inner layer of the serous membrane that covers the organs within that cavity.
ex. lungs are wrapped by the visceral membrane whilst the parietal lines the thoracic wall
lungs area
parietal pleura/parietal pleural membrane
— pleural cavity with serous fluid
visceral pleura or visceral pleural membrane
heart area
parietal pericardium/pericardium/parietal pericardial membrane
— pericardial cavity
visceral pericardium / visceral pericardial membrane
abdominalpelvic cavity
parietal peritoneum / parietal peritoneal membrane
— peritoneal cavity
visceral peritoneum / visceral peritoneal membrane
dorsal cavities (spinal and cranial cavity)
has meninges
meninges
protects the brain and spinal cord from directly touching the inner skull
3 layers of meninges
duramater
arachnoid
piamater
arachnoid contains
cerebrospinal fluid
shock absorber, passes thru ventricles
hydrocephalous (when csf cannot drain due to ventricle blockage)
synovial membrane
found lining the inside of major joints, like in the knee joint which connects the femur, tibia, and patella
synovial fluid
produced by the synovial membrane, fills up the joint cavity like in the knees and bursa/e in the meniscus ligament as lube for movement, cushion, shock absorber
