What are landforms

They are the natural features that

make up Earth’s surface.

They are formed by movements in the earth’s crust.

What are volcanoes

semi-fluid material from far beneath the Earth’s surface

escapes.When it reaches the

Earth’s surface, is called lava. This can sometimes lead to materials piling up in layers to create a mountain.

What are shields

They are areas of very old rock that make up the continents.

They were formed from ancient mountain regions that have

been worn down over millions of years.

What are valleys

It is an area of low land between areas of higher land.

Valleys often have a river or stream flowing through them toward the slope. They can be created by ice that moves over

the land carrying away the land material, or land falls away

when there is a rift in the layers of the Earth.

What are plains

They are usually found at

low elevations. Some were formed at the bottom of what were

once seas. They are well suited for agriculture or farming.

What are plateaus

They are large areas of mainly flat land found at high

elevations. They are formed in mountain ranges. Plateaus were

created by movements under the Earth’s surface that lift the

land.

A topographic map is a map

that shows physical and human

features by using connecting

contours or lines.
