Family
A man and woman, united in marriage together with their children. As a communion of persons, they are a sign and image of the Holy Trinity, the domestic church and community of faith, hope, and charity where children receive their first proclamation of faith and learn how to pray. It is the original cell of society.
Friendship
A relationship between two or more people brought together for a common reason or purpose.
Original Justice
The state of human beings before sin. During this time, there was no suffering or death, and man was at peace with himself and all of creation. There was also harmony between men and women. This was lost due to the first sin of Adam and Eve.
Abba
An affectionate word for “father” that some scholars suggest was similar to “daddy” in Aramaic. Jesus taught us to call God this.
The Golden Rule
Jesus’ moral teaching to do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Justice
A cardinal virtue that is the constant and firm will to give God and neighbor their due.
Peace
The security and stability of a just order.
The Corporal Works of Mercy
Loving actions taught to us by Christ that help us meet a person‘s physical needs.
The Spiritual Works of Mercy
Loving actions taught to us by Christ that help us meet the needs of a person’s soul.
Feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, visit the sick, visit the imprisoned, and bury the dead
The Corporal Works of Mercy
Instruct the ignorant, council the doubtful, admonish sinners, bear wrongs patiently, forgive offenses willingly, comfort the afflicted, and pray for the living and the dead
The Spiritual Works of Mercy
The resurrection of the body
The reuniting of the body and soul of all the dead at the end of time when Christ returns again. The just will enjoy eternal life in communion with God in their glorified bodies, while the wicked will experience eternal separation from God.
