What are the two types of continuous data?
Ratio data and interval data
What is ratio data?
Numerical data where the distances between data and the zero point have real meaning
What is interval data?
Numerical data where the distances between numbers have meaning , but the zero has no real meaning
What is meaningful with ratio data and not invertval?
With ratio data it is meaningful to say that one value is twice as much as the other and this would still be true if the units were changed. But with interval data it is not meaningful to say that one measurement is twice another and might not still be true if the units were changed
What are the two types categorical data?
Nominal data and ordinal data
What is nominal data?
Data which classify or group some attribute, they may be coded as numbers but the numbers have no real meaning, it's just a label, they have no default or natural order
What is ordinal data?
These are 'ranked' data that can be put in an order, but don’t have a numerical meaning beyond the order
