-US Policy changed from Isolationism to this in late 1940s

-Foreign policy aimed to prevent spread of Communism

Berlin Blockade

Soviets attempt to cutoff all land & water from West Berlin to force Western Allies out.

Truman Doctrine

Purpose: Creation of Containment, allowing US to aid Greece and Turkey to maintain Democracy in the World.

-changing us policy from isolationism to Containment.

Marshall Plan (1948)

Provided economic aid to help competed recover from WW2, (European nations: France, Italy, West Germany)

-fear of nuclear warfare after past Atomic Bombs

-Competetion to get something into space between Soviet and US

-Soviet won with the unmanned spaceship: Sputnik

Cuban Missile Crisis

-Soviet secretly places Missiles in Cuba (very close to US)

-US FREAKS OUT & places Missiles in Turkey (very close to Soviet)

• VERY TENSE !! So they both remove Missiles

Nuclear Test Ban Treaty

Stops all Nuclear Bomb Tests, Mostly Successful

• Reduced Cold War tensions for a while so Soviet and US actually had 1 on 1 talks

• But Soviet ruins it by continuing proxy wars and invading Afganistán

Set a limit on how many Misiles everyone in the world can have, UNSUCCESSFUL

COLD WAR END (1989)

• Soviet Union collapsing

• East Germany tearing down Berlin Wall

Why did Soviet Collapse

• Economically: soviet spent all funds on war leading all members to go BROKE = POVERTY

• Politcally: a lot of soviet members got tired of the ideals and introduced informs like Glasnost and Perestroika for political freedom and reconstruction
