Renewable Energy
Energy resources that can be replenished, such as wind, solar, and biomass.
Nonrenewable Energy
Energy sources that are limited and cannot be replenished in a short time, including nuclear, oil, coal, and natural gas.
Hydraulic Fracturing (Fracking)
A technique used to extract natural gas trapped in shale formations by drilling and injecting a mixture of water, sand, and chemicals.
Biomass
Energy stored in plants through photosynthesis; produces emissions when burned.
Fossil Fuels
Remnants of ancient organic materials (plants/animals) that have decomposed and transformed over millions of years, primarily used as energy.
Air Pollution
Emissions from fossil fuel combustion that contribute to environmental issues and climate change.
Nuclear Power
Energy produced using uranium, generating significantly fewer emissions than fossil fuels.
Rebound Effect
The phenomenon where increases in energy efficiency lead to a higher consumption of energy if not managed properly.
Energy Production and Consumption
Includes electricity generation, heating, and transportation, with a major reliance on fossil fuels.
Environmental Damage
Negative impacts on ecosystems, including contamination of water and incidents of methane buildup associated with fracking.
