Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders

People involved were, Rugged Westerners, and upper-class easterners who relinquish what Roosevelt called the "Strenuous life", they gained fame for the role they played in the battle of Kettle and San Juan hills outside Santiago. The riders stormed the hills to secure high ground surrounding Santiago.

Filipino nationalist were led by him, defeated the Spanish army like the Cubans. The Filipinos fought for freedom from Spain in August after some 15,000 U.S. soldiers had landed on the island, Spanish troops surrendered to the U.S.

Platt Amendment

The amendment restricted the rights of newly independent Cubans and effectively brought the island within the U.S. sphere. A multinational force of European, America, and Japanese troops was sent to the Chinese capital to quash the boxer rebellion. The secret societies celebrated traditional chinese custom and criticized converts to Christianity, started a rebellion against the "foreign devils"

Panama insurrection and Canal

more than 35,000 workers helped dig it, physical geography and climate of the region impacted the enormous project. Workers build a series of locks to raise ships to level of Gatuan Lake, 85 feet above sea level, to cross the isthmus. More than 5,000 canal workers died from disease or accidents while building the canal.
