Urine specific gravity (USG)
Evaluates renal tubular function
How well they respond to ADH
how well they reabsorb water back into bloodstream
USG range dog
1.018- 1.045
Avg- 1.025
Isosthenuric urine
Urine has same USG as glomerular filtrate
Range: 1.008-1.012
Fixed USG
If the usg stays in the isosthenuric range it is termed fixed usg
Fixed usg indicates
2/3- ¾ of nephrons are non functional (renal failure)
Water is not being reabsorbed and renal tubules are notnresponding to ADH
