Anterior Cerebral Artery (ACA)
Supplies the medial surface of the cerebral hemispheres.
Middle Cerebral Artery (MCA)
Supplies most of the lateral surface of the cortex.
Posterior Cerebral Artery (PCA)
Supplies the inferior surface and the posterior parts of the brain.
Anterior Communicating Artery
A small artery that connects the left and right anterior cerebral arteries.
Posterior Communicating Artery
Connects the internal carotid artery to the posterior cerebral artery but does not directly supply any brain area.
Basilar Artery
Formed by the merging of the two vertebral arteries, provides blood to the posterior part of the brain.
Superior Cerebellar Artery
Supplies the superior part of the cerebellum.
Hypothalamus
Part of the diencephalon involved in numerous functions including hormone release and regulation of body temperature.
Diencephalon
Part of the brain that includes the thalamus and hypothalamus, essential for processing sensory information.
Watershed Zone
Regions of the brain that receive blood supply from the most distal branches of two major arteries.
