PERSON, PLACE, THING, OR IDEA

(ex. Billy (person), Chicago (place), pencil (thing), courage (idea)

Pronoun

A word that replaces a noun to avoid repetition

(Ex. he, she, it, they. we)

Verb

A word that expresses an action or a state of being

(EX. Run, jumps (action); is, feels (state of being)

Adjective

A word that describes or modifies a noun or pronoun

(Ex. Big, blue, mean, pretty)

Adverb

A word that modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb, indicating how, when, where, or to what extent

Conjunction

A word that joins words, phrases, or clauses together

(EX. and, but, although, or.)

Interjection

An abrupt, often emotional exclamation

(Ex. oh! and Wow!)

Preposition

A word that shows the relationship between noun or pronoun and another word in the sentence, often indicating location or time.

(EX. To, at, under, into, between)
