conducted by Philip Zimbardo in 1971, aimed to examine the psychological effects of perceived power by assigning college students roles as guards or prisoners in a mock prison.
Stanford Prision study results
50% of prisoners wanted to quit after a few days
1/3 wardens were tyrannical
Study was supposed to last for 2 weeks but ended after 6 days

investigated the extent to which social pressure from a majority group could influence a person to conform. (
people were asked to judge line lengths and Asch wanted to see if particpants would give an obviously wrong answer in order to comform

Only 20% of students amde correct and independent judgements for all lines
Started off with own answers then started to comform
1/3 conformed more than half the time
