Casta System

A hierarchy made by the Spanish based on one’s Spanish descent. Peninsulares > Criollos > Castas > Mulattoes/ Mestizos > Africans > Native Americans

Signed by Spain and Portugal to divide the territory of America. Spain got more land, and in return gave Portugal some other foreign land.

Social/ Political system in which one granted land and protection to a lower classed person in exchange for their services.
