What is a Mac Eval?
A series of tests (OCT, VF, Amsler grid) are performed to monitor the macula (central part of vision). Ordered to monitor things like macular degeneration, scar tissue, pigment mottling or damage from high risk medication use.
What is a GLC Eval?
A series of tests (OCT, VF, IOP check) are performed to monitor a patient who is suspected to have glaucoma or someone who’s already diagnosed with glaucoma. The macula and optic nerve head are monitored.
What is an IOP Check?
Appointment for patients who have started on glaucoma eye drops to lower their intraocular pressures and only need to be seen to make sure the drops are working well, the pressure is decreasing, and they aren’t having any side effects from the drops.
What is a CL Follow Up?
Appointment to follow up on patients who were dispensed contact lenses and need to return to have the comfort and clarity of vision assessed prior to finalizing.
What is a CL Fit?
Appointment for previous contact lens wearers where contact lenses were not available in the office stock lenses and therefore were not assessed on the patients’ eyes. Contact lenses need to be ordered and the patient needs to return to the office to allow doctor to assess lenses on the patient’s eyes (assess the fit).
What is an I&R?
Appointment for insertion and removal training for new contact lens wearers. The doctor has already seen lenses on the patient’s eyes and they are returning to the office.
What is a CL Fit and I&R?
Appointment for new contact lens wearers to be fit in contacts by the doctor (assess fit AND vision) and for training to be performed on the same day.
What is a HEME (Retinal Hemorrhage Evaluation)?
Appointment to follow up on leaking blood vessel in the back of the eye. Optos photos are taken during this visit.
What is a Nevus Follow Up?
Appointment to follow up on a freckle or mole on the retina that may be suspicious due to size/shape/new onset. Optos photos are taken and eyes are potentially dilated.
What is a DES (Dry Eye Syndrome Evaluation)?
Appointment to prescribe a patient eye drops or a regimen to better control ocular dryness. Patient will need follow up visits to ensure stability and medication refills.
What is a Med Eff Ck (Medication Efficacy Check)?
Appointment to ensure the patient’s prescribed medication is working appropriately without any side effects.
What is an Rx CK (prescription check)?
Appointment for when a patient is having difficulty with the clarity of their vision with their new glasses, and they need scheduled back to be refracted (to assess their prescription).
What is a Myopia Control Visit?
Appointment for a patient that has chosen one method of myopia (near-sightedness) control (Atropine, MF CLs, PAL) and they are being monitored for progression or worsening of their myopic prescription.
What is an Amb Ck (Amblyopia Check)?
Appointment to monitor a pediatric patient that may have an eye that underperforms and is being treated with glasses or patching to achieve better visual acuity.
What is a Post Op Cataract Refraction?
Appointment for a one month follow up after cataract surgery to provide the patient with a final glasses prescription.
What is a Post Op Lasik?
Appointment to follow up after Lasik surgery to ensure ocular health and that no prescription is needed after surgery. This is done 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month after surgery.
What is a CEE (Comprehensive Eye Exam)?
Annual eye exam (can be routine or medical)
What is a CEE/Special Testing?
Annual eye exam with glaucoma or macular eval.
What is a Retinal Eval/DFE?
Appointment to monitor patients’ retina (inside lining of the eye) for pathology. The patient is dilated and then a DFE (dilated fundus exam) is performed.
What is a PVD Eval?
Appointment to monitor for PVD (Posterior vitreous detachment) which occurs when the jello stuff in the eye breaks off. The doctor is watching for problems like a hole or tear on the retina.
What is a ONH Drusen Eval?
Appointment to monitor drusen, which are waste deposits in the back of the eye.
What is a Yearly Diabetic Exam?
Dilated exams are medically necessary for diabetic patients.The doctor is looking for blood, ischemic spots and lipid deposits on the retina.
What is a Diabetic Retinopathy?
Appointment for diabetic patient that had signs of diabetes in the back of the eye at the yearly diabetic exam. The doctor will follow up every 4-6 months.
