What is a protocol?
A protocol is a set of rules that govern communication on a network.
HTTP
Hypertext Transfer Protocol, allows communication between clients and servers for website viewing.
What is the difference between HTTP and HTTPS?
HTTPS works in the same way as HTTP but with an added layer of security; all data sent and received using HTTPS is encrypted.
What is FTP?
File Transfer Protocol, allows sending and receiving files between computers.
What does FTP provide?
Greater efficiency and support for bulk transfers and large files, including resuming interrupted transfers.
What is SSL?
Secure Socket Layer, a security protocol developed to provide secure communication over the internet.
What is TLS?
Transport Layer Security, a successor to SSL used for secure internet communication.
How does SSL secure data?
SSL encrypts user data using a public key, facilitated through a digital certificate sent to the user's browser.
Where is SSL used?
In situations requiring secure connections such as online banking, online shopping, cloud storage, messaging, and social networking.
