single tooth isolation
is used for selected restorative procedures for endodontic treatment, 1 or 2 teeth
multiple tooth isolation
3-4 teeth , when anterior teeth are being treated maximum stability is achieved by canine to canine
key punch hole
In dental dam application, the hole that covers the anchor tooth. it is placed one or two teeth distal to tooth receiving the treatment
Anchor tooth
tooth on which the dental dam clamp is placed; usually one or two teeth distal to the tooth or teeth being restored
punching a hole too large
dam will not fit tightly around the tooth, saliva can leak through
punching a hole too small
dam will not slip easily over the tooth, dam can stretch and tear
punching a hole too close
dam can stretch or tear leaving gingiva exposed and can cause leakage
punching a hole too far
excess material is present between the teeth blocks dentals vision
size 5 hole
clamped tooth
size 4 hole
molars
size 3 hole
pre molars
size 2 hole
maxillary anteriors
size 1 hole
mandibular anteriors
bow
part of a clamp, rounded portion that extends through dental dam
where is the bow located
distal aspect
jaws
Part of a clamp that is shaped into four prongs to help stabilize the clamp on the tooth. frontal lingual balance
winged clamp
Type of dental dam clamp that has extensions to help retain the dental dam
jaws of the clamp
fit the cervical area of tooth below the height of contour
height of contour
widest part on the facial and lingual tooth
the clamp must
be positioned with all four prongs firmly in place on the tooth before the clamp forceps are loosened
Posterior dental dam clamps
Used for the maxillary and mandibular posterior teeth, these are universal and can be clamped on either quadrant
Clamps 7 and W7
universal mandibular molar clamps
Clamps 8 and W8
universal maxillary molar clamps
Clamps 9 and W9
anterior dental clamps
anterior dental clamps are
designed to retract the gingiva on facial surface, improve visibility for the restoration of cervical class V cavities, permit isolation of an anterior tooth during endodontic treatment
Water-based lubricant
placed on the underside of the dam to help materials slide over the teeth and through inter-proximal spaces
petroleum based lubricant
placed on patients lips for comfort
dont use petroleum based
on dam it interfers with the setting of dental materials
punching a hole for maligned tooth
1 mm lingually from normal arch alignment
