Goods had to be shipped through England before the colonies, limitation to where the colonies could sell to.
1676 Bacon’s Rebellion
Freed indentured servants rebelled against the governor of VA. Led by Nathan Bacon and his men, looted and burned Jamestown.

Reliant on cash crops: indigo, cotton, and tobacco. A rich planter class that relied on slaves.

Religious revival with fiery sermons by Jonathan Edwards and George Whittifield, congregationalists, and populist religious movement.
1619 VA House of Burgesses
The first representative assembly, each plantation or settlement could elect two Burgesses who could create laws, levy taxes, and oversee administration.
1675 King Phillips War
Happened after the British hanged 3 Natives who were accused in death of friendly contact; Metacon.

Armed conflicts between MBC and a native tribe, which led to English control of the Connecticut River Valley
