Structure
The way in which a piece is put together in sections.
Sections
The different parts of a piece of music that divide the piece into small parts.
Binary Form
A musical form with two sections, labeled A and B.
Ternary Form
A musical form consisting of three sections: A, B, then a repeat of section A.
Verse/Chorus Form
A structure used in rock and popular music that may include verses, choruses, bridges, and more.
Coda
A short ending to a piece of music.
Strophic Form
A vocal form containing verses only, where each verse has the same melody but different lyrics.
Theme & Variations
A musical concept where a theme is presented and then varied in different ways.
Rondo Form
A form with a returning main theme accompanied by contrasting sections, symbolized as ABACA.
Twelve Bar Blues
A twelve-bar pattern characterized by a specific chord structure, common in blues, jazz, and early rock music.
Head Melody
The main melody in jazz, often associated with improvised solos.
Improvised Solos
Sections of improvisation based around the chord progression of the head melody.
