an appeal to a viewer to follow the crowd because “everyone else is doing it”

presents only positive information

Glittering generalities
linked to highly valued concepts
specifically words used (demand approval without thinking)
e.g. honor, glory, love of country, freedom (esp. in U.S.)
Name calling
use of derogatory language/words carrying a negative connotation when describing an enemy
attempts to arouse prejudice among the public by labeling the target something that the public dislikes
Plain folks
tries to convince the public that the views reflect those of the common person (working for their benefit)

connects a famous/respectable person with a product/item
often used w/ transfer

make the subject view a certain item in the same way as they view another item (links two in their mind)
often used to transfer negative feelings but can be used positively
in politics, often used to transfer blame from one politician to another politician/party
