When to measure glucose
Use a glucometer when dizziness or syncope is possible and on diabetic emergencies, syncope, and intoxication calls.
Where is the glucose kit
Glucose vitals pouch in the top pocket of the primary and in the tech half fannies.
Normal glucose range
80 to 120 mg/dL.
Cutoff above 180 with abnormal findings
Call Clayton.
Cutoff below 60
Call Clayton.
Between 60 and 80
Give oral sugar such as oral glucose or a sugary drink then recheck. If still under 80 call Clayton.
Finger prick tip
Let the patient choose the finger and prick slightly on the side to reduce pain.
If blood does not flow
Massage the finger and point it downward to use gravity.
