Information Technology (IT)
In the late 1950s, it consisted of computational data processing, decision support, and business software. Today, it includes computer tech support, network and database administration, software deployment, and information security.
IT Industry Employment
Includes telecommunications, healthcare, video gaming, IT services, software developers, hardware designers, mobile apps, mobile & wireless, TV/Video/Film, cyber crime & security, finance, cloud services, e-commerce, and social media.
IT Professional Organizations
Organizations that encourage industry cooperation by establishing standards for professional conduct or technology. They often recognize excellence through awards or certification programs.
Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
A global community of computing professionals and students. Their vision is to promote a world where computing helps solve tomorrow’s problems.
Computer Trade Industry Association (CompTIA)
Known for its certification programs. It offers courses and exams related to networking, Linux, project management, security, mobility, and other IT specialties. It also has a Trustmark program.

Guidelines and ethics that represent the most efficient course of action in a given business situation. The best way to deal with problems and issues that arise.
IEEE
The world's largest professional association for the advancement of technology, contributing extensively to research and standards related to engineering and electronics.
Association for Women in Computing (AWC)
Dedicated to helping women advance their IT careers. Members are women in various IT-related roles.
EDUCAUSE
A nonprofit association and the foremost community of IT leaders and professionals committed to advancing higher education through the use of information technology.
Information Ethics
The branch of ethics that focuses on the relationship between the creation, organization, dissemination, and use of information, and the ethical standards and moral codes governing human conduct in society.
Morality
Study of the concept of what is right versus wrong conduct.
Hacking
The use of computers and software without the owner's permission, often involves accessing systems or networks without authorization.
