Requirement
A statement of what the system must do or a characteristic it must have; evolves into a technical description of how the system will be implemented.
Functional Requirement
Relates to a process that the system must do or the data that it must contain.
Non-Functional Requirement
General behavioral properties the system must have, such as performance or usability.
Process-oriented Functional Requirement
A process the system must perform or do.
Information-oriented Functional Requirement
Information the system must contain.
Operational Non-Functional Requirement
The physical and technical environments in which the system will operate.
Performance Non-Functional Requirement
The speed, capacity, and reliability of the system.
Security Non-Functional Requirement
Who has authorized access to the system and under what circumstances.
Cultural and Political Non-Functional Requirement
Cultural and political factors and legal requirements that affect the system.
Requirements Definition Statement
A document consisting of functional & non-functional requirements listed in an outline format. Provides information needed in subsequent tasks in the rest of analysis phase, in design and implementation phases too. Defines the scope of the system.
Joint Application Development (JAD)
A technique for identifying requirements that involves a joint user-analyst meeting hosted by a facilitator.
Concept Maps
Represent meaningful relationships between concepts, focusing individuals on a small number of key ideas.
Questionnaire
A set of written questions used to obtain information from individuals, either paper-based or electronic.
