Informational Diversity
The key to understanding the positive influence of diversity, where individuals bring different information, opinions, and perspectives to problem-solving in groups.
Superadditivity
Exists when the total exceeds the sum of the parts (1+1 = 3), often achieved through diverse heuristics leading to potential innovations.
Heuristics
Methods or tools to find solutions, ranging from simple rules of thumb to complicated algorithms; diverse heuristics aid in problem-solving.
Vigilance
The defining characteristic of an ethical manager, involving actively collecting data, shaping environments, and broadening decision-making.
Implicit Bias
Bias that emerges from unconscious beliefs, including implicit prejudice and in-group favoritism, that influences our understanding and actions.
Social Categorization
Self-categorization based on race, gender, and age, which increases stereotyping of others and can lead to individuals evoking behavior in others that matches their expectations.
Stereotype Threat
A fear of confirming a negative opinion held of the group one is seen to belong to, potentially impairing performance.
Mutual Accountability
A process where individuals or groups agree to be responsible for their voluntary commitments to each other, fostered by a shared common purpose, goals, and approach within a team.
Psychological Safety
The belief that the environment is safe for interpersonal risk taking, where individuals know their voice is welcomed and expected, and they won't be penalized for speaking up.
Framing (Leadership)
A leadership skill that involves alerting workers to catch and correct even the tiniest of deviations and clarifying the need for voice. Includes re-framing failure.
