Claim
The writer's stance or overall argument, usually the thesis statement.
Counterclaim
A claim that disagrees with the writer's claim.
Rebuttal
Reasoning that disagrees with the counterclaim, explaining why it's not as strong as the claim.
Preposition
A word showing the relationship between a noun/pronoun and its object.
Prepositional Phrase
Consists of a preposition and its object, showing a relationship in a sentence.
Appositive
A noun/pronoun that follows another noun, identifying or explaining it.
Logos
Appeal to the audience using facts and statistics to support an argument.
Pathos
Appeal to the audience's emotions, using emotionally loaded language and stories.
Ethos
Refers to source credibility, using credible sources and sounding credible in an argument.
In-text citation
cites the author’s last name or the title of the source directly after a quote or paraphrased text
