Steps to complete overhand serve
Athletic stance
Hold the ball with your non-dominant hand and raise it above your head.
Toss the ball up in the air with your non-dominant hand
Swing your dominant arm forward and contact the ball with an open palm.
Follow through by extending your arm and pointing in the direction you want the ball to go.
Steps to complete an underhand serve
Athletic stance
Hold the ball in your non-dominant hand at waist level.
Swing your dominant arm back.
Swing your dominant arm forward and contact the ball with closed palm
Follow through by extending your arm and pointing in the direction you want the ball to go.
Steps to complete a spike
Approach: Take jog, then 3-4 quick steps towards the ball.
Jump: Explode off both feet, reach high with your hitting arm, and cock your wrist back.
Contact: Snap your wrist forward and hit the ball with your hand at the highest point of your jump.
Follow-through: Swing your hitting arm down and across your body after making contact with the ball.
Steps to complete dig
Move: Position yourself behind the ball and move your feet to get into the correct angle.
Platform: Extend both arms in front of you with your wrists together, creating a platform to pass the ball.
Contact: Keep your eyes on the ball and use your forearms to pass it to your setter.
Recover: Quickly get back into position to be ready for the next play.
Steps to complete block
Jump: Jump straight up with both arms extended above your head and your hands together.
Reach: Reach over the net and angle your hands towards the hitter's hitting shoulder.
Penetrate: Press your hands over the net and into the hitter's space.
Land: Land on both feet with your arms ready to hit or block again.
Steps to complete shoot shot
Approach: Light jog, Take 3-4 quick steps towards the ball.
Jump: Jump straight up with both feet and both arms extended above your head.
Contact: Use the pads of your fingers to gently push the ball over the block and into the open court.
Follow-through: Extend your arms towards the target and finish with a wrist snap.
Steps to complete a bump pass
Position: Get in the right position to receive the ball, with your feet shoulder-width apart and your knees slightly bent.
Platform: Create a platform with your forearms by extending them in front of you with your wrists together.
Contact: Make contact with the ball using your forearms, keeping your elbows locked and your wrists firm.
Follow-through: After making contact with the ball, keep your eyes on it and guide it towards your target using your arms.
Steps to complete a set
Position: Get in the right position to receive the ball, with your feet shoulder-width apart and your knees slightly bent.
Hands: Create a target by extending both arms above your head and forming a triangle with your thumbs and index fingers.
Contact: Make contact with the ball using your fingertips and guide it towards your target.
Follow-through: After releasing the ball, bring your arms down and to your sides, ready to move and transition to your next position.
Steps to complete a dink
Position: Get in the right position to execute the dink shot, with your feet shoulder-width apart and your knees slightly bent.
Set up: Approach the ball as if you are going to spike it.
Contact: At the last moment, gently contact the ball with your fingertips and direct it over the blockers and into the open area of the court.
Follow-through: After making contact with the ball, keep your eyes on it and follow through with your arm swing.
