Hydroxyl Group
consists of a hydrogen atom bonded to an oxygen atom, which in turn is bonded to the carbon skeleton. The group is polar
Carbonyl Group
A carbon atom double bonded with an oxygen. The group is polar
Sulfhydryl
consists of a sulfur atom bonded to an atom of hydrogen. It forms disulfide bridges
Carboxyl Group
Formed with a carbon double bonded to an oxygen and bonded regularly to another which is bonded to a hydrogen. The group is charged and acidic.
Methyl
consists of a carbon bonded to three hydrogens. They are nonpolar
