RAAS
Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System, which is activated by high potassium and low sodium levels.
Renin
An enzyme secreted by the kidneys that starts the RAAS function.
Angiotensinogen
A protein made by the liver that is converted into angiotensin by renin.
PTH
Parathyroid hormone, secreted in response to low calcium levels.
Calcitonin
A hormone that helps regulate calcium levels in the body by reducing calcium release from bones.
MAP
Mean Arterial Pressure, which is increased through the actions of the RAAS.
Aldosterone
A hormone that promotes sodium reabsorption in the kidneys and therefore increases blood pressure.
Calcium Regulation
The process by which calcium levels are maintained through hormones like PTH and calcitonin.
