Structure
In hair sculpting; the arrangement of lengths across the various curves of the head
Solid Form
Lengths that progress from shorter in the exterior to longer in the interior; all lengths fall to the same level in natural fall
Graduated Form
Shorter exterior lengths that gradually progress towards longer interior lengths; ends appear to stack up along one another at an angle
Increase-layered form
Consists of shorter interior lengths that progress towards longer exterior lengths
Uniformly layered form
Consists of same length throughout; results in a totally activated surface with no discernable weight
Square (rectilinear) form
Combination form created by using the planar sculping technique; also known as rectilinear form/box cut; may be refined in solid form
Form Line
Outer boundary/silhouette of a form/shape
Texture
Degree of a coarseness/fineness in the hair fiber
Crest Area
Wildest area around the head; divides the interior from the exterior
Level Of Observation
System designers use for studying, categorizing & communicating the reality around them in a common language, basic detail and abstract
Interior
Area of the head ABOVE the crest area
Exterior
Area of the head BELOW the crest area
Weight
Created by the concentration of length within a given area of a sculpted form
Shape
Two-dimensional representation of form consisting of length & width, silhouette/outer boundary; the contour of an object
Natural Fall
Describes the hair as lengths lay or fall over the curves of the head; projection used for solid form
Normal Projection
The way the analyze the structure/length arrangement of a hair sculpture
Combination Form
Two or more of the four basic forms within a (hair) sculpture; the proportional relationship of each form within a combination produces the shape, texture, & position of weight in the final design
Hair Sculpting
Artistic carving/removing of hair lengths to create various forms & shapes; known as haircutting
Structure Graphic
Diagram that provides an abstract view of the length arrangement of a hair sculpture to scale & proportion
Gradation
Very short version of the graduated form; achieved w/ over comb techniques; also known as tapering
