Navigation Acts
A series of laws that the British Parliament passed. They limited how goods should be traded between the colonies and the British government. They limited what goods could be produced and they had to be on British ships.

The sugar act increased tax on sugar, coffee, sugar, and foreign goods. It limited them from smuggling as well.

Quartering Act
Any British soldier living in the colony, it is your job to pay for his basic needs; shelter, food… anything they need. They believed it was necessary because they need to make sure the colonists are not moving west.

It was a direct tax. It required a royal stamp on each of the products.

They just bump up the price on things instead of making a tax. This was on things like tea, lead, glass and paint.

LORD NORTH- He wanted tea to be directly shipped from India to the colonists. He also wanted the colonists to unload all of this within 20 days. Otherwise they would still have to pay the tax. These were to make the tea cheaper, so that the colonists would stop smuggling, but to also get the taxes.

In what two ways did the British choose to punish the colonists of Boston? What acts did they pass to accomplish this?
Coercive acts (intolerable acts). 1. Boston Pour Act- They shut down the Boston harbor until the destroyed tea and tax is paid back. (nothing in and nothing out). 2.Massachusetts government act- suspend all elective council and town hall meetings. Is now under the king's control.
