Ascending limb
Impermeable to water and has thicker walls
Mitochondria provide energy to actively transport sodium ions out of the ascending limb of the loop of Henle.
Accumulation of sodium ions outside the nephron in the medulla lowers the water potential.
Therefore water diffuses out by osmosis into blood capillaries and is reabsorbed.
At the base of the ascending limb some sodium ions are diffused out as there is a dilute solution.
