Gospel
The good news of God's revelation in and through Jesus Christ, proclaimed by Jesus, the Apostles, and now by the Church.
Evangelist
A person who actively spreads the Gospel; traditionally one of Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John.
Narrative gospel
A gospel that presents the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus in a narrative; Matthew, Mark, and Luke are narrative gospels.
Synoptic gospels
Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke that can be seen/read together due to many parallels and shared source material.
Synoptic (definition)
From Greek for 'seen together'; indicates Matthew, Mark, and Luke share common content and can be read side by side.
Mark (Gospel)
The Gospel of Mark portrays Jesus as the Suffering Messiah and Servant; written for a Gentile audience; symbol: Desert Lion.
Desert Lion
Symbol associated with Mark's Gospel, reflecting its vivid, direct style and the desert opening.
Matthew (Gospel)
The Gospel of Matthew emphasizes Jesus as the Messiah and King for a Hebrew audience; opens with genealogy; symbol: Man.
