Latin Aeneid GCSE section 3 - Juno visits Aeolus

talia flammato secum dea corde volutans

The goddess, pondering such things to herself in her inflamed heart

nimborum in partiam, loca feta furentibus Austris, Aeoliam venit.

Went to the homeland of clouds, a place full of raging South winds, Aeolia.

hic vasto rex Aeolus antro luctantes ventos tempestatesque sonoras imperio premit

here in a vast cave the king Aeolus confines the struggling winds and the sounding storms with his command,

ac vinclis et carcere frenat.

and reins them into this prison with chains.

illi indignantes magno cum murmure montis

brooding, with the great murmuring of a mountain,

circus claustra fremunt;

they roar around the bolts of the door;

celsa sedet Aeolus arce sceptra tenens,

Aeolus sits high on the citadel holding a sceptre,

mollitque animos et temperat iras.

and soothes their spirits and directs their anger.
