What is an epic poem?
A long, serious poetic narrative about significant events in the mythology or history of a culture or nation, featuring a hero with supernatural strength and valor.
What is the epic hero like?
The main character who overcomes odds and achieves legendary conquests; may be human, a god, a demigod, or protected by a deity.
What is an Epic Quest?
A long and dangerous mission or pursuit that the hero faces and overcomes.
What is the setting in an epic?
The setting may coincide with mythological or historical events and may occur in places such as space or the underworld.
What is Divine Intervention?
Intervention by gods or supernatural beings that endows the hero with extraordinary strength and power.
Who is the author commonly credited with The Iliad and The Odyssey?
Homer.
What does the name 'Homer' mean?
It means 'Blind'.
Where is Homer believed to have originated from?
Ionia, in ancient Greece.
What are The Iliad and The Odyssey?
Oldest and most popular epics in Greek literature; products of oral tradition recounting events during and after the Trojan War.
What is a 'Conclave' as listed in the vocab?
A private or secret meeting.
