what is the rate of reactions?
How fast one or more substances can change into new substances
surface area
as surface area increases the rate of reactions increases (can occur by crushing, breaking, or grinding something)
Temprature
As temperature increases the rate of reactions increases. If temperatures decreases the rate of reactions decreases
Concentration
A measurement of how much solute exists within a certain volume of solvent
- as concentration increases the rate of reactions increases
catalyst
- substance that speeds up the rate of reaction
- they are present with the reactants however they do not get consumed during the reaction
Enzyme (catalyst)
salary glands release enzyme (a catalyst) to help break down food
presence of an Inhibitor
Inhibitors slow down chemical reactions (decrease the rate of reaction)
- galvanization is an example of this
