Sonata Form
A musical structure with three main sections: Exposition, Development, and Recapitulation.
Exposition
The first section of Sonata Form where themes are introduced.
Development
The section in Sonata Form where themes are developed and varied.
Recapitulation
The final section of Sonata Form where the main themes return in their original form.
Symphony
A large, multi-movement piece of music usually consisting of four movements.
Rondo Form
A musical form that alternates a repeated melody with new melodies.
Minuet and Trio
A form consisting of three sections in rounded binary form typically in triple meter.
Fugue
A polyphonic composition where a theme is repeated and developed in various voices.
Functional Harmony
A system where chords are prioritized based on their relationship to the tonic.
Dynamics
Refers to the volume of sound in music, such as piano (soft) and forte (loud).
Rhythm
The organization of music in time.
Interval
The distance between two notes measured by the number of lines or spaces.
Texture
The way different musical lines or voices combine, e.g., monophonic, homophonic, or polyphonic.
Melody
A sequence of notes that is perceived as a single entity; a musical sentence.
Sound Waves
Vibrations that travel through air or another medium, characterized by amplitude and frequency.
Leitmotif
A musical theme associated with a particular person, place, or idea.
Aerophones
Instruments that require air to produce sound, such as woodwinds and brass.
Idiophones
Instruments that produce sound through the vibration of their own material.
Membranophones
Instruments that have a head or type of membrane often struck by a stick
