Why would we want to use EQ?

• To remove (cut) unwanted frequencies.

• To increase (boost) wanted frequencies.

• To change the tonal balance of sound.

• For a creative effect.

What is graphic EQ?

• Graphic EQs can achieve the same outcome as parametric. However, they work in a different way. They are split into set bands.

• This would allow us to change the balance of these three frequency bands to change the tone of an audio file.

• This type of EQ is most commonly found in car stereo systems.

What is the benefit of an 8-band EQ?

This allows for far greater control when recording and mixing a piece of music.

What are the advantages of graphic EQ?

• Set bands are most common require frequencies.

• Faster workflow as there is less choice.

• Easier to use.

What are the disadvantages of graphic EQ?

• Set frequency bands may not always be what you want to change.

• You do not necessarily know what the shape of the band is.

• Can only turn up or down – less control.
