Emergency Medical Responder (basic first aid, CPR, no transport)

Advanced EMT; can perform IVs, give more meds

Highest prehospital level; advanced airway, cardiac monitoring, IVs, meds
Expressed Consent
Verbal or physical permission from patient
Implied Consent
Assume consent for unconscious/incapacitated patients
Involuntary Consent
Used for mentally ill or impaired individuals; consent obtained from someone legally responsible
DNR (Do Not Resuscitate)
Must have physical paperwork present; if in doubt: you are required to resuscitate
Refusal of Treatment
Patients have the right to refuse, even if it's risky; must be alert and competent; document everything — offer to return, explain risks
