What is nuclear fission?

A nuclear reaction in which a heavy nucleus splits into smaller nuclei, releasing energy.

Name three types of radiation.

Alpha, beta, and gamma.

What is alpha radiation?

Alpha radiation consists of helium nuclei and is easily stopped by a sheet of paper.

What is beta radiation?

Beta radiation consists of electrons or positrons and can be stopped by a thin sheet of aluminum.

What is gamma radiation?

Gamma radiation consists of high-energy photons and requires thick shielding, such as lead or concrete, to be stopped.
