Qualia are intrinsic, non intentional, phenomeal properties which are introspectively accesssible

Qualia definiton 5 mark

Qualia are the properties of experience - which are felt inside the mind.

• e.g. the greeness i experience when i look at an apple

• e.g. the taste of beer when i drink it

Internal - each qualia is different to each person uniqueness

Intrinsic

Exist of itself without reference to anyhting outside of it e.g. redness

Non intentional

Not directed outside of themselves exist being immediately accessible

Phenomenal

Exist as an experience

Introspection

gaining knowledge through self anaylsis

Accessible

Able to be retrieved immediately

Conceivability argument

1. I have a clear and distinct idea of my mind as a thinking non extended thing

2. I have a clear and distinct idea of my body as a non thinking extended thing

3. Everything I clearly and distinctly conceive of is capable of being created by God

4. It is a possiblity that God could have created my mind as a thinking non extended thing and my body as an extended non thinking thing

5. It is possible for the mind and the body to exist independantly of each other

6. Mind and body are seperate
