what is metabolism?
a series of reactions that provide the cells with molecules and energy that they need to function and grow/divid
what is concerted regulation?
each enzyme feeds back to inhibit a small part of the metabolic pathway, and the overall effect can inhibit the entire process
what is enzyme multiplicity?
there are multiple pathways to one end product.
what is the benefit of enzyme multiplicity?
it prevents one product from shutting down a pathway entirely. this is important for when the environment of the cells change. it allows complex fine-tuning of regulatory mechanisms.
how are purine rings built?
step by step. always attached to sugar and phosphate
how are pyrimidine bases built?
separately. later attached to sugar and phosphate rings.
